Eco-Friendly Materials
Bahana's signature fabrics are created and manufactured from recycled polyester (pre & post-consumer*), giving used clothing a second life. This process transforms existing materials into eco-responsible and high-end textiles, thus reducing waste and our environmental impact. Certified by the International Organization Global Recycled Standard (GRS)*, Recycled Claim Standard (RCS)* as well as Green Circle certified*
Definitions:
*Global Recycled Standard (GRS): International standard for verifying recycled content, including environmental and social criteria throughout the production chain.
Criteria: 50% minimum recycled content, management of environmental and social impacts.
*Recycled Claim Standard (RCS): Verifies the content of recycled materials in products throughout the supply chain.
Criteria: Tracking of recycled materials, environmental compliance.
*Green Circle certified (approved by theAssociation of Plastic Recyclers (APR)): Valid that products , the operations as well as the process are sustainable.
*Post-consumer recycled materials: a product or fiber that would be disposed of as solid waste, once it reaches the end of the product's life cycle. For example, plastic bottles collected through a recycling program are melted down and made into new fibers for clothing, often used to create post-consumer recycled polyester.
*Pre-consumer recycled materials: fiber or by-product generated after the manufacturing of a product is complete, but before the product reaches the consumer final. At Bahana, this often means using factory scraps, which would otherwise end up as waste or in a landfill, to create new products.
Our Factory
Following several failures in Europe, we have forged a solid partnership with our supplier based in PRC. This establishment is audited and certified every year by accredited third parties of the Textile Exchange program: The International Organization Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) to ensure compliance with international social and environmental standards. We have witnessed that the location of a factory does not determine the quality of working conditions. This is why we require that each supplier, regardless of their location, respects our Bahana Label© certification, verifying certifications that comply with the standards cited.
